The Spectator Bus
revised January 31, 2007

Many runners have requested a bus for their friends and relatives to view the race and the spectacular scenery that Lake Tahoe offers. We will have 4-5 spectator buses to cover the 26.2 mile race.

  1. The Spectator Bus is designed for spectators of the Marathon Runners & Walkers and can be  utilized by Half Marathon spectators as well.
  2. The motor coaches  will pick up runners and spectators  at the Horizon Casino Resort and proceed to the marathon start line in Tahoe City or the Half Marathon start line at Rubicon. Spectators will ride any regular runner's bus to Tahoe City or Rubicon where they will switch to nicer comfortable tourist coaches for the ride back down the course.
  3. Once the race starts, spectators will be able to change buses to stay up with or drop back with their runner.
  4. Cost for this Spectator  Bus, including the finish line picnic, is $25 for adults. Children 3-17 is $10 and kids under 3 are free. No charge for runners with race numbers going to the start line. Only 25 average paid spectators on each bus for maximum comfort and window space after the race starts. Pick up your Spectator bus ID pass at the Expo Friday evening or all day Saturday.
  5. There will be no refunds.
  6. See the schedule on the back of your runners race bib for exact bus schedule.
  7. Spectators will be dropped off at the Bank of America parking  area with the runners.   Hang around start but board the buses 10 minutes before the start and the buses will move to the 1.25 mile area and watch the pack come by. This will be a very photogenic place to watch your runner.
  8. Other stops are at Kaspian Park at 3.5 miles, 7.5 mile mark at the Meadow Street area; and then for the Half Marathon start near Glen Drive near Rubicon Realty..
  9. Note: Spectators who ride to the Half Marathon start line with the Half Marathon runners,  will be picked up at the Half Marathon start line after the race has started.
  10. Stops at the 20 mile mark at Inspiration Point, with bathrooms available.
  11. Then to Pope Beach Finish Line to greet your winner and join him or there for lunch.
  12. After the race, spectators will  be able to join their runner on the runners shuttle buses, back to your lodging along Hwy 89 or Hwy 50.
  13. Your Spectator  pass will also allow you to join the picnic with your runner.
  14. Spectators with a pass will ride with their runner on any bus to the start line.
  15. May also purchase a spectator pass at the Marathon registration table in Tahoe City on race day if any left.
  16. Please purchase your pass on line when you register or see above to sign up after you register.

This was the first Marathon I've attended and I have to say it was
really well organized and exciting, not to mention beautiful. I came
specifically to cheer my boyfriend on (his 7th Marathon, 1st in Tahoe)
and wound up supporting a lot of other new friends as well. I took the
Spectator Bus and got to follow and cheer for more or less the same
group of runners for the better part of the day. Everyone was so cool!
They actually thanked ME for being there supporting them, which was
pretty amazing considering they were the ones doing the amazing physical
feats. I have to say that runners in general are REALLY nice people.
Being a basketball player, distance running is not really my thing, but

I am starting to do more of it and even managed to participate in the 5K
with a pretty respectable time. Thanks again for a fun weekend... Franceska Gleason 2001
