* Be early. Buses will start at the Horizon Casino Resort outside the North ramp doors in the parking lot behind the Expo ballrooms. Marathon buses will go around the east side of the lake (skipping Millers Outpost & Camp Richardson). All other event buses will go up the race course. Parking is free at the casinos and Miller’s Outpost on Highway 89 but $10 at Camp Rich campground.
**Except for the marathon, pick up shuttle bus to the start line at Camp Rich Lodge if you are staying there, or if you have paid to park there. Reserve a parking place by purchasing a parking ticket at the Expo. Camp Rich & League to Save LT buses do not go to the Marathon start line.
Shuttles from Tahoe City to the Half Marathon & 10K start lines are not as convenient because of the early departure time. There is free parking just south of Fanny Bridge at 60 Acre Park. It’s best to drive to the Horizon and take the shuttle back to the start line and drive back to Tahoe City after the race; or be dropped off at the start by friends; or park on a side street near the Half Marathon start and take the post event return bus (ask the driver to let you off near Rubicon Realty). There is no place to park at the 10K start area.
Post Race Buses will return runners along Hwy 50 from the finish line to the Horizon at regular intervals starting about 11:30 AM and ending at 3:45 PM. Board the bus across the street from the entrance to Pope Beach. Return buses to Tahoe City will leave from outside Pope Beach at: 1:00 PM 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3 PM, and 3:30 PM. Plan ahead if you will not finish in time to catch these last shuttles. Race timing stops at 3:30 PM for all events.
Spectators may purchase a bus pass at the Expo at the Horizon and ride to the start line with runners and then ride the Spectator Bus back to Pope Beach with stops along the course to cheer and take pictures. Finish line only spectators and friends may take a free shuttle bus from the bus stop on the side of the League to Save Lake Tahoe office across the street from the Tahoe Valley Post Office (Hwy. 89) to the finish at Pope Beach. Parking is limited near Pope Beach and costs $10 to encourage use of free transportation and to keep our event green. The Forest Service, as a condition for the Marathon to use Pope Beach for the finish, posts no parking signs along Hwy 89 and has the CHP ticket cars parked in these posted areas. The campground parking lot across from Pope Beach is limited to 300 cars at $10 each. The alternative for spectators is to park for free at the old Miller's Outpost shopping area across from the Tahoe Valley Post Office and take the continuous free shuttle buses to the Pope Beach finish. Dogs are not allowed into Pope Beach or on the race course..
Awards: All finishers will receive a finisher’s medal. All participants will receive a long sleeve wind shirt.
Full marathoners will also receive a finisher’s license plate holder at the finish.
The first 25 men & women in the Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 10K will receive a top 25 finisher’s shirt at the finish line. Awards will be presented three deep in the 5K, 10K, Half & Marathon on the beach after your race.
Relay teams:
Use your own vehicle. Drop off your starter and be south of Tahoe City before 7:45 or you will not be at the first relay exchange zone in time. Last runner may want to take the 10K or Half Marathon bus to the last relay exchange zones. Some slower teams have had trouble getting there in time. Refer to your Relay Instructions. The 2-person relay exchange is at Rubicon Realty. Please thank your volunteers who make this event possible, and we thank you for coming.
Next year’s Marathon events will be Sunday, September 25 2011. Please join us in Maui January 23, 2011 for the MauiOceanfrontMarathon.com
