lake tahoe marathon Relays

You need to have your own transportation for either relay event.
Using your own car/van gives you the camaraderie of traveling and cheering for your teammates as you progress
down the course. You will have the best seats in the house on race day.

Rules for 5 Person Relay

· 8 A.M. is the start time at Commons Beach in Tahoe City

· You need to have your own car for either relay event.

· One person may pick up your race numbers and team timing chip at the Expo.

· Each team will be issue one timing chip. "It is your relay baton".

· Runners will hand it off at the exchange zones.

· The starter and finisher will need to be sure they touch it down with in a foot of the start line and finish line so your time will be recorded.

· A teammate may run more than one leg if you run short of runners.

· If driving up from SLT in the morning, do so before the road closes at 7 AM

· Drop off your starting teammate at Commons Beach in City before 7:45 AM

· Relay teams will starting and run with the Women's Marathon early start

· The road south closes at 7:55 for the start of the race.

· Wait south of Fanny Bridge by the Church at around mile 1.3 to cheer them on

· For safety and the sake of your wallet (10 CHP vehicles will enforce), do not drive along side your runner.

· Move on down to Homewood in time for the first exchange, etc..

· After the 5th runners starts head down to Camp Richardson,
park for free out side of Valhalla on Highway 89 or the paid parking a bit closer..

· Wait for your finisher and all may jog in the last half mile or so together and each collect your Relay finishers medal.

· Awards on the Beach after the race

· Have fun

Exchange Zones

Start: 8 A.M. with the Elite Women on Commons Beach in Tahoe City
1st Leg: 6.3 miles Exchange across from Homewood Ski area in Homewood. Park in front of Homewood Ski Area or Fawn St.
2nd Leg: 5.1 miles Exchange @ 11.4 miles. Change north side of Meeks Bay Firehouse. Park on right shoulder.
Note: The road is closed southbound at Rubicon Realty at 10:30 a.m. for the start of the Half Marathon.
3rd leg: 4.5 miles ending 6/10th mile up Bliss State Park hill. The 1st large turnout going up. Look for relay exchange sign. Tiny amount of parking, be careful. Be sue your support vehicle is north of Rubicon Realty and Glen St before 10:30 which is the Half Marathon start area.
4th leg: 4.0 miles ending at Inspiration Point. The toughest leg. Park to the right of Inspiration Point overlook on the right shoulder.
(This runner could ride a Half Marathon bus from the south and ask to get off at the third exchange zone which is one mile down the hill (going north) from the summit of Bliss State Park hill. )
5th leg: 6.3 miles Downhill for three miles, move to the bike trail at Spring Creek. And then the last 5K is flat and fast. Finish line is at Pope Beach. (This runner could ride a Half Marathon bus from the south and ask to get off at the 10k start line which is near the final exchange zone)

Important Notes:
Traffic including relay vehicles will be stopped at 10:30 for the start of the Half Marathon as the race enters the Highway off of Glenn St..
In past years a couple of slower teams got caught behind traffic and couldn't get to the 4th or 5th leg in time for the exchange.
If your team will not cover the first 13.5 miles in 2 1/2 hours read the fine print regarding relay exchange zones.
Buses leave from Tahoe City to the 10K & Half Marathon from the Bank of America parking lot.
Check the time schedule on the back of your race bib.

Rules for Two Person Relay

Each team will be issue one timing chip. "It is your relay baton"..
Runners will hand it off at the exchange zones.
The starter and finisher will need to be sure they touch it to the start line and finish line
If driving up form SLT in the morning, do so before the road closes at 7 AM
Drop off your starting teammate at Commons Beach in City before 7:45 AM
8 A.M. start time
The Relay teams start and run with the Elite Women (as least momentarily)
The road south closes at 7:55 for the start of the race.
Wait south of Fanny Bridge by the Church at around mile 1.3 to cheer.
For safety and the sake of your wallet (10 CHP vehicles will enforce), do not drive along side your runner.
Please use only one support vehicle and there is no turning back....
This event was designed for the couple who have child care issues but any pair of runners may enter.
The second runner waits at Rubicon Realty with the car keys and kids.
Runners exchange the "Relay Baton", keys and kids and meet at the finish.
Two person relays need to use their own car.
Park in the neighborhood near Rubicon Realty, but not on Glenn Street which is the side street where the Half Marathon starts
Wait for your finisher and you may jog in the last half mile or so together and each collect your Relay finishers medal.
Awards on the beach after the race
